Assistive Technology Program

Friday, November 21, 2008

Governor Ed Rendell has proclaimed November as Assistive Technology Awareness month.  Pennsylvanians of all ages with disabilities may need assistive technology devices and services to live independently and productively, as well as to participate fully in the affairs of their communities.    Assistive technology devices and services allow people to work, attend school, play, and live in the community of their choice.

To increase awareness of assistive technology and to assist an individual in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device, Friendship Circle, an active adult center in Darby, PA,  will host a program on Assistive Technology on Friday, November 21st.

At 10:45AM, Joann Bevan, M.Aud., from the Hearing and Balance Center of Mercy Fitzgerald hospital will give a talk on hearing aids (what they are, how they assist in hearing, etc.).  In the afternoon, at 12:45 PM, Ann Doloff, from Temple University’s Institute on Disabilities and Assistive Technology Library will present a program on various devices for any disability, funding, etc.

Assistive technology devices and services are not luxury items, but necessities for people with disabilities and older citizens.  These tools empower people to control their lives and their futures.  So come join us on November 21st and learn more about these wonderful devices that can do much to increase the quality of life for those with disabilities.
